Effective Teaching and Learning is dependent on classroom climate. This element examines the process of planning for, and delivering, 'outstanding' lessons. My doctoral research developed ways to articulate and measure the ebb & flow of interactions. On-going Performance Management observations during the research period resulted in 8/8 'Grade 1: Outstanding' judgements. More experienced teachers will recognise this methodology as what they have come to do naturally when teaching well. My work explained this tacit form of knowledge so it might be recognised and cutivated.
“Over the 7 years that I have known and worked with Sean, he has always been an absolute model for those wanting to understand what makes an ‘Outstanding’ lesson. I have observed him many times throughout this period and never graded his teaching as anything other than “Outstanding” in terms of Ofsted grading criteria”.
(Head of Faculty: Humanities, Nov 2011)
“My teaching has been completely changed. When I first started my training my feedback was quite often about a lack of creativity but that I had good questioning technique. Working under Sean I have been encouraged to take risks, to encourage students to ‘go on a journey’ towards independence and to develop these aspects by ensuring lessons have a good ‘flow’”.
